"BIRDS COME FIRST"
PARROT WEBSITE

HELP, HELP, HELP!!!!!

When I adopt a parrot, that wonderful bird becomes a part of my family. He or she is in a permanent home. MY HOME!! I do not believe in bouncing birds around from owner to owner. While re-homing a bird time and time again can work, I think that in the long run, it is detrimental to the parrots that I am trying to rehabilitate.

I make sure that my guys are well taken care of. I feed them the best, organic or home grown fruits and vegetables, the best pelleted diets and the best seed mixes.

TAKING CARE OF ALL THESE BEAUTIFUL "WOODGIES" IS EXPENSIVE!

Food, Toys and Veterinary Bills are costly. A recent trip to the vet for FIGGY, one of my cockatiels cost more than $400.00 !! It was worth every cent as she has recovered from her illness and is doing very well!! Still, with more than twenty birds in my care, the potential for major expenses is always looming on the horizon.
It is important to say that I don't mess around with the health of my birds. There is no guesswork on my part. If a bird seems out of sorts, a visit to our vet is almost immediate.

I DO NOT supplement my income by breeding or selling parrots. Since most of my companion parrots are rescues, it does not make sense to me to add to the population of parrots that are already out there.

I AM NOT, I repeat NOT a non-profit organization. I may seek that status at some point but it is important to note that any help you may be kind enough to provide is NOT tax deductible.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP

You can click on the links to advertisers on these pages. That provides income that, in large part, will help with the expenses involved with taking care of all these beautiful feathered friends. Some will be used to pay for the space used by this website.

If you choose, you can also send a monetary donation(non-deductible),
made payable to Bill O'Rourke
or a new bird toy (ALL SIZES NEEDED) to the address at the bottom of this page.

Again, It is important to note that I do not rehome my birds. I believe that they should have a permanent home once they are with me. Many of these birds have had traumatic pasts and I feel responsible for them and their well being. I WILL NOT damage their trust again by placing them elsewhere! For people who understand, these birds are like my children. They are all different and all LOVED!!

It is without question a huge challenge, both emotionally and financially but there is no greater reward than being able to re-socialize a badly handled, or abused parrot. If you are moved to help, I Thank You!!

WE ALL THANK YOU!!!

Dory, Janai, Max, Casper, Sunny, Dutch, "Little One", Princess, Sunny "D", Figgy, Angel, "The Rodent", Birdy, Sweet Pea, Cookie, Big Blue, Sky, Peaches, Cream, White Cloud, K.C., Sami, Yogi and Flipper.

"BIRDS COME FIRST" is an attitude that I've developed over the years and I try to do my best to put my birds first. I will also be the first to say that I am not perfect and that there are times when everything is not 100% perfect. I strive to reach 100% but realistically, I am human but I do my best! Once these beautiful and wonderful birds come to me, I do everything I can to adjust them to their new surroundings. Each new parrot is medically evaluated then given every opportunity to flourish and reach his or her potential as an avian companion. If there are any behavioral issues, I will work carefully with that individual parrot to determine the best course of treatment for that particular bird. Having had many years of experience with behaviors ranging from severe biting to feather plucking and working birds through their "issues", I feel confident that I can help any parrot improve his or her life. Using Love and Careful Nurturing, I feel that any problems can be improved or overcome.
